I have two laptops both with xp sp3 installed. I cant seem to get a normal mouse to work when i plug it into the USB. Any ideas why they dont work?

Could have a look if there's a legacy USB option in the laptops BIOS, or there's usually settings to do with whether USB mice are supported via BIOS or the OS, could try changing that.

I assume you've ruled out the obvious stuff - broken USB port, broken mouse? How about USB drivers maybe? Any hardware in device manager with an exclamation (!) mark next to it?

Tested mouse and USB, all is working as it should.

There are no option in bios as far as i can see. There is the 'plug in and play' which is set to 'yes'

There is a ! against 'other devices' IEEE 1394 controller, but googling it doesnt really seem to help.

This is a normal PS mouse connected via a usb dongle.
