Ok so im a hardcore PC gamer & have been for some years but i really like the look of recent console fps shooters. My only beef is the pads. .... . i need a keyboard and mouse. Im not talking about multiplayer action but single player.

I heard about a year ago the only game was UT3 but has that changed?

Can i player Killzone with a USB keyboard and mouse and start playing straight away???

the only game that has it is ut3 and it wasnt implemented well either

you'll have to get used to controllers if you want to play console fps :)

I found it impossible until one game made it 'click', which for me was Battlefield: Bad Company, I've not had a problem since.
It'll never be quite as good as mouse + keyboard, but everyone else is in the same boat, so it's no disadvantage.

Just stick with it, and it will 'click'. When I first started console gaming I thought I would never be able to play FPS games on a console pad, but I stuck to it and one day it suddelny fell into place and I found myself using a pad just fine :)

I've been using a XIM 360 adapter (cost me 60 quid , guy custom made it for me and shipped from canada bout 18mts ago). Using this to connect to my ps 3 via a PS2-PS3 adapter. Other end of it goes into a pc and a M/k attaches into pc/laptop. Buttons and movements are mapped to the mouse , keyboard via small front end gui thats freely available. This way you can use M/k on ANY game regardless if it has built in mouse support on not. Google XIM360 forums and read more about it there or PM me. Btw not all Ps2-Ps3 adapters work, venom one does as thats what I'm using. Sounds complicated but its not really. Btw it really is amazing, more so by the way that someone found it works on the PS3 even though the inital project was for the xbox 360

Seriously, why? There is just no need to mess about like that. So much easier to stick with a pad, it WILL 'click' one day.

It was more of a personal thing. I wanted to see how this thing worked, how well it worked, what type of animation frames/updated per second it could achieve and the response in games aswell as the deadspace restrictions. I sometimes play on cod4 with m/k and it works tremendously well. Thats not to say many people want to go down this route, but i certainly enjoyed it.As mainly a m/k pc gamer it was a joy to use. Each to their own though.

CoD4 works well with any control scheme because of the ridiculous auto aim.

Using a mouse and keyboard addon is lame as hell, not only are you getting a better control method but you are also getting the auto aim that was put in place for controllers.

Then again I hear these mouse/keyboard addons don't actually work all that great as they still have to respond as joypad moment? I don't know but whatever, PC is for mouse and keyboard.

Yeah I tried one for the Xbox 1 and it just felt like using an analogue stick with a mouse, so it was still based on acceleration, it was horrible.

As many have said in this thread already the best thing to do is to just use a controller a lot and you will get used to it. Also agree on the CoD4 auto aim thing... it is pretty silly sometimes when I am playing it on my mates PS3 :D

People who endeavour to use a mouse + keyboard on games that don't natively support it may as well be cheating. Lame as hell.

We all have to deal with the shortcomings of pads in FPS', so why bother going to extreme lengths to try and get an advantage?

(this is not in reference to the op, more other people who have clearly spent large amounts of money and time in an attempt to get that advantage)

Seems like a complete waste of 60... And really lame.

Shami, the XIM doesn't work with an xbox1. You must have been using something else called an XFPS which is something different

Well sure that's your opinion, I havent found it to be a waste of money though.

There are many very good pad players, and many people who prefer to use a pad rather than a mouse/keyboard. Its
a matter of what control method someone feels comfortable with. Using a m/k doesnt make you automatically amazing and doesnt make you more skilled at things like map knowledge, spawn times, use of team co-ordination or decision making. I dont get this thing about it being "lame", it's just another control method. Some people feel more comfortable with, some dont.

KB/MS is not so much an advantage against experienced gamers in my findings.KB/MS has some disadvantages. WASD is not analog is a big one. Also different weapons are setup different for the analog sticks, e.g. in Halo and BFBC turrents, at maximum movement, turn slowly. This is a problem for a mouse because you need to move fast and then pickup and start again. For weapons that also have time based acceleration they work very, very poorly.
So its not all roses.

You aren't doing impossible things in game. Good players still beat me and I salute those who like the pad and those who prefer mice and have problems with a pad I would recommend a Xim. It won't give you a competitive advantage but it will making the game more accessible.
Just my 2cents

Well said ^^.

Shame it's not true.

There's a reason why, for example, COD4 on consoles has auto aim while it doesn't on the PC. The reason for this is because Mouse+kb is simply more accurate, a good player using mouse+kb will always beat a good player using a pad, probably would beat excellent pad players too. Another good example is shadowrun, a PC/360 cross compatible game that increased the the size of the cone of fire for PC users to give 360 users more of a chance.

A mouse allows you to make fine, quick, accurate adjustments to your aim, you can spin 180 degrees using a mouse in an instant and shoot with good accuracy after you have done so. Pads are slower and less accurate, that doesn't stop them from being fun as most people also play under these restrictions on consoles.

However, if this mouse+kb adapter is indeed as good as he says and it becomes popular it will take a lot away from console gaming for me. I don't want to have to even consider spending £60 and setting up a mouse+kb in front of my television to stand a chance of being competitive.

This. If a large number of people start being willing to pay extra for a M+KB on a console It'll divide the whole console FPS scene.
If you don't want to play with a console controller why the **** would you buy a console instead of a PC?

Yep and I stick to it. If I want to play an FPS with a mouse and keyboard I use my PC. I can't think of anything worse than having to set up a table in front of my TV.
