Mouse mat lifespan

My mousepad at home is about 10-11 years old. Got it free from work, back in the days when mousepads were necessary and you had to clean the mouse ball once in awhile. I keep it clean by using hot water and dish-soap -- which is great for getting the oils out -- and a scrub-brush.

I've also trained myself not to rest my palm on the surface, using my thumb and pinky-finger instead.

Suppose a plastic or metal mat is the clean option, but fabric mats like the titan are just so much more comfortable in my opinion.

I have a DKT pad (cloth) that is looking a bit tired but I have had it for 3 years along with my mouse. Using the desk is not as smooth as the mat though. Will get a new mat and mouse at some point.

I've used a steelpad 4d for about 8 months and it stays pretty clean. I always wipe any crumbs off straight away because they tend to catch on the mouse otherwise. Bought one for work as well as it's much better than using the desk or the really bad mousemat they provided me with. I tend to use the mouse at quite high sensitivity, and any other surface just makes it jump about occassionally

I've had a 1 metre long Boogie mouse mat XL from OCUK for a few months, sometimes it gets marks on it but they can just be washed off, the edges are a little frayed but nothing really noticable.

I use the National Geographic magazine after reading it, get a fresh one every month, so works out quite well, and is a good mousemat for my optical mouse.

My mouse mat dates back to windows 3.1, so must be about 13 years old now. Surprisingly not in too disgusting a state considering its a fabric one

I've just been using my bed (Student room, desk covered with work, so converted my bed into a PC gaming platform as well. My MX518 was perfectly fine with it.

Not a big problem but I was just thinking with the more expensive gaming mats, how old is your mouse mat and is it dirty.
I feel like tossing my everglide titan in the washer because forking out another tenner for a new mouse mat feels wrong.

I have this exact mat and there's a very grey/brown area just below where the mouse usually lies. Can they be washed?

I have the same problem with my Titan. I usually wipe it with a damp cloth every so often, though it still doesn't get it properly clean.
