What's the deal with laser mice and mouse mats?

I am getting the Logitech G5 gaming mouse and would like a mouse mat - can they be used? Can only certain types be used?

Cheers

Nic

You don't really need one I haven't used one for years with my optical mice. If you have any dips or cracks in your desk it is a good idea to invest in one though as the pad would obviously assist you in games and improve accuracy. Anything from Steepad, Everglide is good :)

I recommend this:

QPad Gamer Mid Sense XXL

or any other "cloth" mat from QPad = no friction and wearing of the Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) gaming feet on your mouse unlike harder surfaced mats ;)

i've got an Everglide DKT had it for ages now going on 3 years, great mousemat and it works a treat with my MX510. Like has been suggested, it doesnt really matter you can not bother using a mousemat but if you want to invest in a mousemat, it can prove useful :)

There's no ETA on that mouse mate. I have the S&S steelpad which is expensive and tbh since I've stopped playing games i'd prefer a softmat, not a hard one.

Can anybody else recommend a soft mat?

Steelpad QcK. It's £6-£7, not stupidly large, and a very good cloth pad. If you really want to splash out, get the Steelpad 5L, but the QcK should be good enough for most people.

Mwhahahahah Im the sadder of you all lol

Brought me an Icemat 2nd Editon for my Laser mouse (Microsoft HABU)

Works like a dream

Set me back £19 though

dont you just love that scratching noise when you get a piece of ANYTHING under the mouse :p :p

Just got the Everglide titan delivered today for my G5. Its a lovely smooth surface to play on. Of course, it is stupidly big, but then, thats what i wanted ;)

Is the G5 mouse with the two thumb buttons available yet? If so where from?

Cheers!

ps my table is one with an antigue-esque type leather top - so not too smooth! Need a mouse mat! What are the raptor ones like?
