mouse stops working

in the last week or so when playing bf2, my mouse stops working, its still lit up and i have to unplug it and plug it back in and then it works again. its working fine right now in windows. has anyone else had this happen before? whats the problem most likely to be, mouse fault? windows fault? or usb fault? pc is a dfi ultra d, win2k and logitec mx300
 
it stopped doing it untill a week ago and now its doing it even more. i tried a spare mx300 which is identical and it still does it :@ ive got no viruses no spyware, no new apps installed, tried different usb ports and now i have no idea :\
i have a wired logitech usb keyboard and the mouse is wired too.
 
yup i tried another usb port. it is an old mouse but 2 of them are unlikely to be faulty. it doesnt just do it in games, it does it while browsing the web e.t.c
