hi
i currently have a mx revoultion which i use on my desk. is it true that by getting a mousemat it will stops the pads from wearing out quick and also make it a bit more smooth

Well it depends on your mouse mat really. You can get either really smooth surfaces, or you can get rough surfaces. Any mousemat will wear out your mouse pads with time, obviously the rougher ones will do the job quicker! Depending on the mousemat you get, you may get much smoother or much grippier movement

I would certainly get a cloth mat. Something like the Razer mantis speed which is what I use. Or the everglide titan but I found the Razer mantis speed to be a lot nicer than the everglide.

get a s&s steelpad - comes with some more mouse feet and works superb

I recently got a Steelpad 5L, which if you read the marketing spiel is a combination of plastic and cloth. I really like it.

I can recommend the Steelpad. I now use it exclusively instead of my Icemat, which does look cool but I could never really get used to playing on glass.

don't really agree with aaazza steer clear of the 5L get the fnatic pad!
