What exactly is it about Pop OS that people find so great? Maybe for a linux noob it's ok
Much rather mess about with Arch.
You can tweak things on pop os…It's considered one of the best "out-of-the-box" distros, even for gaming. I used it for a while but I'm like you and like to tweak things so moved on after a while.

I have been using pop os for 2 years now as my daily drive and no issues mateReally though, Pop OS is very over-rated. It's even been described as the prettiest OS ever. Well Gnome ain't my definition of pretty, and I prefer an OS as far away from Ubuntu as possible.
Yeah you don't need to stick with Gnome, and you can change anything you like to make it how you want, but then you probably don't know how to, and if you did, you'd likely be a power user and build something from scratch.
I think Pop OS is ok for someone who wants a Windows replacement and doesn't know much about Linux though. However, they will run into problems, just far later than something like Arch.
I doubt that's going to happen for a loooong time.I would swap over to Pop OS but there needs to be a few things in place first (some I can't find a clear answer anywhere)
1. Microsoft Office NEEDs to work (there is conflicting information on it) alternatives are not an option
I'm not an expert but I would expect these to be possible.2. Something that works the same as Remote Desktop Connection (work purposes) and is compatible with our user logins (and can output audio)
3. Can remote into my media centre folders with the IP address from PopOS
4. Can put the computer to sleep then wake it up with a WakeonLan command
