I just got an email telling me that the Farnham Exchange is now BE enabled and I checked and I'm 1.8km from the exchange :D

Soooo tempting to switch, just need to find out if I can get it invoiced through my company or if I have to do it personally
 
Haven't had any issues thus far (touches desk) so not too sure what the support is like but my tickets for fastpath and other bits were dealt with in a timely manner :)
 
Your modem should quote an attenuation. There's link to a site with instructions for a good number in the sticky.
 
Have you looked into UK Online, I am with them and get 14ms pings and 7mb on ADSL upto 8mb (so around 15mb on their ADSL 2 packages) and i live 2.3km from the exchange according to Sam Knows.

The customer services is excellent aswell.

I was on the 22mb service syncing(sp?) at 15mb, they restricted me to 8mb for testing (which improved nothing) whilst charging me at the 22mb service rates. They concluded my line couldn't take 15mb (yeah, what ever) so lumped me with the 8mb service at 22mb prices :mad:
 
I have had no problems at all with UK Online.

I am interleaved at the minute and get the following pings:

First used my DG834G since it was inplace and worked, they refused to support me when the exchange was dead so I had to buy their stinking GT (magical waste of £70). They replaced the GT at one point as it may have been duff, turned out it wasn't. Used the GT for a base line test on BE and it worked but changed to the BeBox as soon as my Annex M went active.

Oh, and ukonline is an in the past thing.
 
Ah i see, the only reason i say that as it's pretty consistant with the problems i was having at my Uni house with Be*. I found out that it was actually the DG834PN causing the problem and the hardware had become faulty loosing packets of information. It just seems quite similar to my issue.

However, if you want to boost your speed with Be i couldn't recommend another make of router. The latest ADSL modem firmware released with the router firmware is fantastic and if you have problems with the bebox when changing your SNR speeds or fastpath didn't work out well for you then get a netgear router and update it.

My parents connection is a good example.

With the Bebox and older netgear firmware they were connecting at 12Mb on interleaved, fastpath was unstable.

The new netgear firmware will now connect at 15-16Mb with fastpath and a lower SNR setting. On top of that, its completely stable!

So apart from the hardware going slightly wrong at my uni house i still can't recommend a better router for ADSL2+, at least with Be anyway. If you still have the DG834GT then update it, setup it up for Be and request fastpath for a laugh :)
 
Nah I got rid of it some time ago. Not many routers support Annex M of ADSL2 so that limits it a bit. I'm comfortabl with the bebox, doesn't cause any problems and rarely jamms up :)
 
Well as long as you're with Be then every problem is solved :D They are pretty much the only ISP people recommend these days, can't get any better!

Well, either them or o2 :p
 
quick lazy question,

do *Be* impose any download restrictions? only asking as my BT contract is up next month and i live....wait for it......400 yards from the exchange :)
 
I'd recommend Be, never had any problems with them and they give you a top of the range router when you join them. I got a constant 20 Mbps down and 1.3 Mbps up which was fantastic, they also only have a 3 month contract which allows you to change if you don't like them (most ISP's it is 1 year). Their monthly cost has dropped for £24 to £18 recently which is even better.

I have BT at home (have since 2002) and have had nothing but problems with the BT Home Hub, I'm on my second one (the first one was corrupted by a remote update, which happened several times before but this time it was beyond recovery). Ironically the BT Home Hub is the same router as the Be Box but the BT Home Hub has custom firmware on it which seems to make it a lot less reliable and the idiots have recently disabled telnet on it as a ditch attempt to fix all the security holes in their firmware.

As for download restrictions their is none enforced or hidden limits.
 
thanks for the heads up Rob, appreciate it m8, I will definately be looking into changing over to Be. One last query tho, is it really worth the extra £4 for the Be PRO(£22) against the Be Unlimited(£18)? as the only difference i see is the upload speed and static ip.
