Move from Plusnet to BE?

quick lazy question,

do *Be* impose any download restrictions? only asking as my BT contract is up next month and i live....wait for it......400 yards from the exchange :)

none whatsoever

there is a FUP, but it has no restrictions on downloads at all. There is a clause about reasonable useage of the service, but that means using the service legitimately. Ie not using it to host kiddie porn websites, mp3 download servers or attempting to hack be's servers to treble your download speed or whatever

so unless your going to use the line for ciminal purposes, your fine.

How do you both manage them speeds with that distance?
I'm 2.09km from my exchange and im hardly touching 6mb (im on Be* also)

Fairly new line (looks like it can't be more than a year old), green junction box is right outside my house, single socket, virtually no line noise, no interal wiring and no ext lead to the router :)

EDIT: one of my slightly slower syncs, but it's always arround this margin

Uptime: 5 days, 3:24:53

Modulation: G.992.5 Annex M US 56

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,814 / 15,173

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 9.37 / 70.17

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 13.0 / 19.0

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 15.5 / 31.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 5.5 / 5.0

Thats a pretty good connection for the distance, about what i get in my student house thats supposedly only 700m away from the exchange :/ i can even see it up the road!

This is what I get connected to PlusNet, which is in the same exchange as the new BE equipment.
Code:
DSL Status
  	Connection Status Connected
  	Upstream Rate (Kbps) 448
  	Downstream Rate (Kbps) 6368
  	US Margin 24
  	DS Margin 4
  	Modulation MMODE
  	LOS Errors 0
  	DS Line Attenuation 43
  	US Line Attenuation 50
  	Path Mode Interleaved

I guess going by the attenuation numbers, going to BE isn't going to give me much more than less of a cap on my bandwidth useage. Plus I have to find out if their fixed IP option actually only gives you one ip or one for the router and one other.

Well I just got my questions answered by what sounded like someone in eastern europe on the tech support line and someone in Bangalore on the billing line :)

Apparently you can set the BE modem in bridging mode so that I can assign the fixed ip to my firewall, and I can get the invoices in the name of my company :) So all is good.

BTW if anyone is interested it seems that the promotional code SALES2 is still valid, which gives you "1 Month Free Broadband and Free Connection" well it accepted it on the form :)

I'd recommend Be, never had any problems with them and they give you a top of the range router when you join them

A Speedtouch 585v6 is what I was given? I wouldn't say that it's top of the range??

Infact mines still in its box and I'm on the Netgear D834GT :D
