*** Movember 2011 ***

Tried to shave creating handlebars today, didn't go to plan as i shaved them wonkey. I will make sure that i shave it properly next time so i can get my moustache a bit crazier! haha.

I believe that I have reached the point where one can admire ones mo from afar. Tis but a sign of things to come! (There were whisperings in the office, whilst I was swaggering on by, of resemblance to a 70's porn star mixed with the suave debonair looks of a 30's movie star - I'm not sure which one I prefer...)

AH!

I guess i'm not cool enough to know the street name.

I hate fixies. What's the point? Gears are awesome. I should really post a picture of my tasche. Aiming at something c. 1940's RAF boy, but I'm quite wide of the mark. Had planned a trucker, but there were patches of inadequate hair just below the lips on either side, so I aborted that one pretty quickly.

Hehe - I ride a fixie, well a single speed. I'm not quite suicidal enough to ride fixed in the middle of London. It's mostly flat so they're actually quite good, nice low maintenance bike.

It seems a lot of people dont bother to follow the rules, there should be no hair in the zone directly below the lips, so you can have handle bars, but they cannot meet and become a goatee, and you cannot have the triangle of hair under the bottom lip either.

So many Movember fails on this thread.

How's your fund raising and moustache growing going?

Also, these are the rules, no mention of not having hair under the lip if it's not joined to anything else.

Indeed, far as I'm aware, you cant have it growing on the chin or connecting to the chin.

Handle bars however are okay.

If people are raising money and having a bit of fun with it then the Movember rules can take a running jump as far as I'm concerned. Let's not get distracted from the point that it's about helping out the charity, the rest of it is trivialities* regarding good form.

*I apologise if it appears I am calling any moustache a triviality, that is not the intention here. A good moustache is a thing of wonder and should be respected as such.

I refer you to rule 3 on the UK page, which is a slight alteration on the original rule three which stated:

"For the entire duration of Movember (Movember 1st - 35th inclusive), no hair shall be allowed to grow in the goatee zone - being any facial area below the bottom lip."

However this original set of rules was around long before Movember became fashionable. Back when Movember was more about achieving a great moustache and enduring a month of odd looks and ridicule becuase no one knew! all in the aid of charity (which i have done many times before).

Obviously now it is more about the fashion and how 'cool' it is to do, now that celebs take part, and so the UK rules have been laxed. I suspect in a few years they will say that goatees are ok.

Follow the original Aussie rules, and unless you were raising money for Charity in Movember 5 years ago, try not to judge eh? ;)

Judge all he wants, he's following the rules on the official Movember page who...lets see, run the damn thing!

Goatees are completely different.

I do agree that a full on mustache would be better, rather than handle bars and the like, but you know, it doesn't say you cant do this so people do.

I opted for the full on tash, purely because EVERYONE does the handle bar, because you don't look as daft (sometimes)

But oh well, they are still raising money...Do you really think half the people here are taking part because Beckham or whatever other fancy celebrity is taking part? :p

EDIT:

This is what i'd call 'cheating': Mo

Ha ha, awesome! :D

Good job Nick! (have sent a little something your way)

Well done fellas!...keep it up.

Why would I follow the original Aussie rules when I live in the UK, and the UK has it's own CURRENT rules?

I'm doing this to raise money for charity, not to be cool, because right now I look like a paedophile, and paedophilia isn't cool.

This is my 4th year doing Movember so any 'fashionable' reasoning can take a flying leap for all I care. I'm doing it because I believe in the cause and being an observer rather than joining in and doing something good doesn't appeal to me.

So what if it's not following the exact rules and people are doing it because it's become fashionable, as long as they're contributing to the charity by either financial means or raising awareness...

and by my sorry state of a moustache looking like a reverse hitler I'm certainly not doing it to be fashionable.
