A friend of mine has recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 and he noticed that when he holds it with his fingers around the lens, he can feel some movement inside.

Is that normal?

Does the camera know which way is "up"? Some cameras contain ball-bering that moves around to determine the orientation of the frame.

Some also have cleaning systems that vibrate the sensor (or the thing covering it), but the vibrations are so small that you shouldn't be able to feel it.
