Movie ''Falling down''

"I'm the bad guy? How did that happen?"

Was just about to quote that. Have to agree with scorza's take on the ending, really. Robert Duvall is the perfect foil for the whole film, and there's scenes, particularly where he's talking to D-FENS' mother that are really touching.

Beg, borrow, steal or fly to the US to see God Bless America if you're a Falling Down fan.

Saw this again last Sunday on sky, my gf had never seen it and we both loved it. Gotta feel sorry for the poor guy and the cop.

Damn fine film my best scene has to be the golf course.

"What's wrong?"
"My - heart..."
"Well, what can I do about it?"
"Pills... get p-pills..."
"Where are your pills?"
*points towards the golf cart, which has just plunged into the water*
"Bad news. Your little car's gonna drown. And you're gonna die, wearing that stupid hat. How does it feel?"

:D

Haha, that's the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions this film. :p

One of my utter favourite films to watch when your feeling rubbish. God bless America looks awesome as well.

Great film, though did anyone else feel let down by the ending?

When we found out that instead of being a normal bloke who was pushed over the edge by modern life, he was an everyday nut job all along?

Yes!!! totally and utter felt let down by the ending!! for exactly that reason!

No, ending was fine.
People don't just snap like that, They're odd to start with.

Absolutely amazing film, love it.

+1

How you can watch the entire film thinking he's a normal guy is beyond me. Everything he does shows him to a proper nut job, the ending was hardly a twist.

One of my ALL TIME favorite films!...

Love the 'Whammy Berger' scene and the 'Pay Phone Scene'

Every time I see it in the TV schedules I have to watch it!! :)

Mild bump :D

Watched this last night on Netflix, pleasantly surprised. Surprised i got drawn in so much despite the comedy being light, and the story also being equally light. It's just a fun movie with a simple message that everyone knows come their 30s.

I'm not convinced he's actually insane/not normal. Just too stressed for too long so he was no longer self conscious enough to see where his family suffered. Yet he was providing everything to his family he thought he was supposed to.
I'm not sure if the cop was supposed to be his equal or not, someone else who suffered from doing as they're told. Or maybe he's just another fun character inside a high pressure society?

I have watched the movie several times and of each time I see it, I think differently.

Dfens is a complex individual, the film does not really go into detail about his past relationship so we can only guess.

Seeing him "triggered" makes you wonder if he also got triggered the same way with his family, hence the restraining order.

The ending always never sits right with me, not bad acting or writing, just a sad ending.

I wonder if he wanted to be shot as he realised he gone too far for redemption and seeing everything he had seen, he realised he could not grasp the reality of the world he is in?

Yeah i think i would agree with that summary actually. I initially posted/searched for the film straight after i watched it, so wasn't completely sure how i took him.
