Moving a RAID Array

Hi guys,

I have 2xWD Black Series 750Gb drives in RAID0 on an Intel ICH9R RAID controller on my IP35 Pro. Everything is working nicely.

I am going to order a new board this week, probably an MSI P67-GD65. I suspect the best controller on this board is the 6Gb/S Marvell 9128 RAID controller.

I've never migrated a RAID Array to a new controller before. Is this even possible, or should I be prepared to have to recreate the array from scratch? I've backed up all my important data but obviously it would be far easier if I could simply reformat the Windows partition and off we go.

Is the Marvell 9128 the best controller to use, or should I use the 3Gb/S Intel controller?

Thanks!

Use the Intel controller and it should pretty much just go over fine. My intl controller detected my RAID1. Enabled the ports and set up raid and bing :)

it is possible, i did it from a 939 skt to an am2 socket mb.

but it doesnt always work.

just connect the drives, and set up raid on the controller. cross ur fingers :D

if they are boot drives u will have to sort out drivers etc i think

It is possible, but there's a fair chance that it won't work.

What I'd do would be to image the partitions on the array that you want to stay the same onto another drive then wipe the drives and build a new array on the new controller.

If you use the Intel controller it will most probably move over just fine and your data will be intact if you use the marvel controller it will probably not.
