Hiya guys,

I have some apps that are installed and registered, all on this MacBook i'm using now.

I plan out getting a iMac this weekend, so that will be my primary computer.

How can I get these apps from one to another? Music/Photo's/Email are on an external harddrive, but what of the apps?

I recently bought the MacHeist bundle of apps, some are really great but I've deleted the .dmg files and I'm not sure I can download them again and use the serial numbers again?

Please Help!!!

:o

Yea I've seen that a few times, but how? I mean it's not that advanced to do so over the wired/wireless net is it?

Is it possible to simply burn the apps to cd? Its not like Windows where they are imbedded is it?

I thought apps are moveable, but I'm not a 100% sure.

Thanks

As Sic said, use FireWire.

Just boot up the iMac and hold T to boot in to Target FireWire mode.

From here you can transfer anything you want, and it should maintain the registered Apps just like you have them on the MacBook :)

If you use the system transfer tool you can choose to move your entire user profile along with all your apps. It would be as if nothing had happened.

No its fine, however most apps store settings and stuff separately these wont be copied over you need to copy over /Users/(username)/Library/Preferences
as well however I don't know how supported this is.

i tried this but when i try to open any of the apps that i copied they bounce in the dock then disappear.

A quick look on the interweb found this...

Which in turn links to this...

Perhaps this is your problem as the applications were brought over from a PPC Mac they are not universal binaries, so your running them using rosetta which for some reason isnt working. My suggestion is that if this is the problem you reinstall every thing becauase you will get a massive performance hit if you run all your applications using rosetta. There is often an option to turn rosetta off. Apple + I over an application then turn of the 'Run using rosetta' option

they are all from an intel mac to an intel mac.

would it matter if they are from a 10.4.10 to a 10.4.9??

tbh it might just be easier if i install again.

thanks
