right i am in the process of moving all my stuff to my new desktop but i have a few files that are over 7gb and despite having enough room on my drives i am unable to move them - how can i get these files over to the new desktop?

that could be it, they are FAT32 they are memory cards one is being used in my PSP and the other is in my phone (both 16gb) and they have the space - what would formatting them to NTFS do? i mean it wont stop them being usable in my phone and psp will they?

dam i knew i was forgetting something, i just need to find the network cable - how long would it take to transfer the files this way?

10GB takes around 15 minutes on a 100mbit connection so one of your 7GB files should take around 10 minutes. If both your ethernet connections are gigabit then it'll of course be faster.

you could also create split archives with 7zip. This would let you split the 7GB file into multiple smaller files that FAT32 could accept.

If you format/convert your memory cards to NTFS, i suspect your phone/PSP may no longer be able to read it.

If it doesn't work, then simply re-format back to FAT32 though.

If both machines are connected to the same Router/Network then you can simply transfer the files across the network.

I you want to copy the files from the old desktop and there's a lot, probably the quickest way is to plug the hard drive into the new PC and just do a hard drive > hard drive transfer.

can the same be done with a ps3? Hook it up via calbe and transfer big movie files

Yes that is possible even with wifi (which will obviously be slower because the PS3 only has Wireless G support which gets max 54mbps) You just need a media server setted up with WMP or something similiar :)
