Yeah I know this is going to sound mega cheapskate, but I have a broken old Blu-Ray player the only problem is that it won't power on due to a broken capacitor somewhere... my question is... can I remove it and put it into a computer? Desktop or Laptop?

It has SATA leads, not sure I recognise the power leads though. I'll upload some pictures later, I've never done this before but it's an old piece of equipment so nothing to lose...

The disk drive appears to be in a protective case within the player.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

It should be possible yes. I have done the reverse (put a PC DVD drive into a player with a broken drive).

Could you identify the power connector type?

Okay don't think this is going to work the whole unit is too big... internal blu ray players are compact this this has the circuit board underneath it externally... and is bigger than a 5.25 bay drive. :( Oh well...
