Guys,

does anyone know how to save email folders in outlook 2003 to the network?
Basically a user has created a folder in his inbox on our exchange server and it has shed loads of messages in them, too may to individually click on and then 'save' to a folder on the network. I'm looking for a global way to do the same for the whole folder.

Any ideas please?

Thanks

File > Export then just export the folder as a .pst, even thou folders within an exchange inbox are backed up to a users profile.

Yeah, thanks, but i explored that option and its just not viable. The emails needs to be saves on the central server as files that can be opened up by an user accessing the folder they are put into, from any pc on the domain (sorry, didn't make that very clear in my OP).
If there weren't so many of them then he could just File > Save as > [outlook message for,at], then folks could just access them easily.

So you want all the emails individually in a folder on a central server, so any user can access them! Right?

If thats the case just CTRL + A on the inbox and then drag and drop the emails this will just export the emails as single files "*.msg"

Sorry if i'm grabbing the wrong end of the stick

In a nutshell....

Create new Exchange mailbox, give user or users rights to mailbox

Open mailbox in Outlook

Copy mail to the new mailbox.

You can then open the mailbox from anwhere as any domain account, permissions allowing. Even use OWA if Outlook is not installed.

Yes mate, thats exactly what i want, but that was the first thing i tried and it wouldn't work. Having thought about it i did try it as a limited user account, but then if permissions were denied it would say so, but it didn't, it simply didn't do anything.

edit: hmmmm.....just tried it from a pop3 outlook client and it worked fine. Will have another go from the exchange account on monday. Thanks

How about going down the "Seriously, do you REALY need access to these emails EVERYDAY, or could they just go in an archive?" route.

Having moved 100 staff from one office to another accross different networks and having to manually backup every thing they had, some people have 4gig PSTs that date back 5 years (in our case, back through 2 previous organisational structures, and for some people, a fair number of different job roles). People dont need this stuff, they just think they do.

And as a warning, PST files do not work with offline folders. If this user wants these files (if they are in a pst that is) at home, they cant be in an ofline folder type structure.
