Moving "documents" to another drive?

You can mount a partition on any empty folder using Junction Points.

To fix the fav links problem:

> Go to the folder called 'Links'
> Delete the shortcut for Music.
> Open cmd.exe as Administrator (right click runas...)
> mklink Music "E:\My Music" /D

Assuming:
1. You are in the links directory when you are running mklink
2. Your music folder is E:\My Music

you may have to create a new user account and use that, but might get away with it since it's music and not my documents

browse here in regedit

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]

and modify the music one to default (create a folder first)

cheers done that, now the link on the left hand side works. But I now need to change the icon, tried right clicking but I can't see the Music icon in there.

Cheers Bledd, this doesnt make much sense to me tho :S

And the Vista one for good measure:

[DeleteOnCopy]
Owner=[YOU]
Personalized=13
PersonalizedName=Music
[.ShellClassInfo]
InfoTip=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-12689
IconResource=C:\Windows\system32\imageres.dll,102
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell 32.dll,-21790
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll
IconIndex=-237

Paste the correct code (relative to your OS Software) into a file called Desktop.ini I think they mean recreate this file (not sure where) and then your icons will be back.

The problem, I *think* is that you've moved the muisc folder location to a whole hard drive, like G:\ and vista knows it's looking at a drive, so gives it a drive icon. If you create a folder G:\Music and then move it to there, then you should get your icon back.

I've got it set up so I have a drive G:\ with folders for Desktop, Documents, Music, Pictures & Videos

Also, if you're doing this with the Desktop folder, it might be worth knowing that when some programs create desktop icons, they go in C:\Users\Public\Desktop and not in your user one. just copying and pasting on the desktop will make the copy in G:\Desktop

Tried creating a new folder 'Music' in E drive, then cut and paste. Still the same problem :(

make a new notepad file and save it in the 'music' folder that you make, call the file Desktop.ini (make sure it's not Desktop.ini.txt)

paste the details from that other thread into the file, and save it.. -replace OWNER=YOU, with OWNER=WindowsUsername (whatever yours is)

Done as above, pretty sure Ive done it correctly as you said. Made the music folder in C/Users/Jimmy. But the icon still hasnt changed.

'perhaps' capital D will do it?

otherwise, creating a new user account and using that definitely will

just thought that, I dont really want to create a new account then delete Jimmy, then create a new Jimmy account as ive got saved games to my present account and didnt want to move all off that around.

Tried the desktop with a D still the same, when I right click on the Music folder its different to the others.

Hmmmm, this is odd

if I click on Jimmy via start get the top pic,

bottom is via my computer, and ive not got a music folder now. Arrrgggg!

If I right click on the E drive then location tab, restore default this is shown C:\Users\Jimmy\Music tried clicking yes but doesnt work.

This is getting confusing aswell :mad:

All I want is my default Music folder moved to my other internal HDD.
