I'm coming to the end of my rent agreement, and was wondering how long it usually takes to rent a place and how soon I should start looking. My agreement ends at the end of June, so any info would be appreciated :)

Is it just the tenancy thats coming to an end? Could you not speak to the landlord and extend the tenancy agreement if your happy where you live?

Or if your not happy I would highly recommend that you start looking asap! Can take a long time to find a nice place and a decent landlord!!

How long's a piece of string?

In London it's not really worth looking until you're about 1.5mths from moving in.

When I was at uni in Egham the twisted nature of the housing market there meant you really needed to have something sorted out by January at the latest to move into a place in the Summer.

Id give it a month and a half or so, any longer than that and they will probably reject your offer as it will be too long away.

There's no harm in starting to look early and to get an idea of what area(s) you like if you haven't already got one in mind. It'll also give you a better idea of what the rental market is like for there. You also may get lucky and find somewhere that has a moving in date that suits you perfectly even though you've got a few months - such a situation is good for both you and the person with the property as neither party has any last minute problems in getting sorted.
