So,i dont post much but do read a lot here, and by reading a lot of thread i see the canon dslr is the way to go.

I have 2 sony dslr at the moment with 5 lens (a100 and a33)

Now i enjoy the sony's but want to move to canon,i don't use my cameras for jobs ect but purely for leisure, the main thing i shoot is my daughter or surrounds (parks ect).

Im not really really into photography but do want another make/model,what NEW canon are there out there for roughly the £300 to £400 mark, would it mean going 2nd hand for a better camera or new ?

Any thought would be appreciated.

Hi mate,

For that money I would look into the second hand market. You can get some cracking bodies for that money.

Some examples on a good 2nd hand website.

50D - £324
650D - £359
60D - £369
700D - £419

That gives you an idea, but those are without lenses don't forget.

Are you going to sell the Sony's to fund this and some glass?

Yes ill be selling everything, each camera has 3 battery's,got a large sony flash and the 5 lens plus bags, tripod, monopod.

not sure what its all worth as most of it is old (but ideal for a starter).

Ideally i would like a body with some glass so im not without a camera.

Okie dokes that gives a bit of scope.

If say you picked the 60D at £369 then added a 50mm 1.8 which can be had for £60-£100 depending on where you find it then add the normal 'kit lens' which you could get 2nd hand for around £100 that would be a good start! I'm pretty sure 2 DSLRS, batteries and 5 lenses and all your other stuff should more than cover the cost!

Fancy a swap for your one ?

ill do some price ranging for my stuff over the next couple of days and see what my budget will be.

Out of that list you put up jacob, what one would be ideal for my situation ?

Well the 650D and 700D are both great entry level cameras but I think you may find them a bit 'toy-like' after not too long, the 50D and 60D are the next level up. The 50D whilst good is ageing a bit now so I'd recommend the 60D over it considering the minimal price difference as well there isn't much of a reason not to.

I recommended the 50mm 1.8 as its a superb portrait lens and very cheap, so it'll be good to get you going. There is also a 35mm variant for not 'that' much more money which would be a nice touch.

I'll think about the swap :p

Check out MM for some Canon lens to get you up and going cheaply ;). I'm selling a lot of my Canon kit (not all listed yet) to fund the move up the food chain to full frame.

If you're not doing video or need a flip-out screen I'd say 50D over the 60D- the 60D was aimed more at mass market for some reason, and had a few missing features- microfocus adjustment notably- a more plasticky body, and a shorter mean shutter life. 50D is also 1fps faster in burst mode (noticeable).

You'll also save a bit of cash.

Good shout! 50D would be the better option in that case. Did the 60D have noticeable improvements on noise handling and dynamic range? do you know?

No perceivable improvement in quality afaik, this is why i opted for the 50D when it came to a new body. For the MFA alone it is worth going 50D or 70D and missing out the 60D if the intention is to shoot fast primes.

I agree. Why the hell Canon removed MFA from the 60D is beyond me. I was less than impressed by that feature removal. There was talk for ages about it being readded with firmware, but nothing came of it.

Personally I really don't like the noise handling on the 60D and preferred how my old 30D handled it (and it was more comfortable). The 50D is the best of both worlds really (well, in my opinion). There are various second hand retailers out there that offer warranties too, when they have one in stock.

How soon do you want one? Mine will be on MM in the coming days with extras plus separately some lens as well.

Can't talk about buying/selling outside of the mm.

In terms if me wanting one,I don't want to rush and find a good example of one be it tomorrow or a month,I have to sell all of my kit yet to fund the new camera,I'm not sure what I will get but should be around the 450 Mark.

I thought that but it isn't listed as a rule or prohibited in the MM rules dated 29/11/2013. I assumed it had been dropped because for example at the top of this forum the sticky you can link to your MM threads?

I was just making it clear incase you stated a price ect.

I'll keep a eye out for your thread and we can chat in there.
