Moving FTTP Cable

Sorry for the necrobump but I am wanting to do this as well. I just want to move the ONT box as the grey box outside is ok where it is.
The problem is I don't know if it's possible to disconnect the ONT and pull the fibre back outside with plug attached?
It's connected to the wall with some kind of white plug (see pic). It doesnt obviously come off but I am hesitant to put much force on it.

No, you can’t do that.

When they installed the fibre, they passed the fibre through the hole in the wall and then terminated the connection with a big plug. That plug won’t go through the hole in the wall.

And the white ‘plug’ is a cable nose - it’s just a stick-on cover that covers up the unsightly hole and makes sure the cable points downwards. It makes the job tidier.

Ok thanks for confirming. I'll try get Openreach to move it.

I thought that this was what all fibre installs were like - with a splice point in the box outside - but I was surprised to see that mine wasn't like that at all:

Obviously this isn't BT, this is Toob, but they're just using standard LC cables with a coupler. Keeps it simple and makes things less fragile I suppose.

Not sure I like that bend on the top cable. That'll be because the coupler isn't clipped in to the proper space in the box. Best go and sort that.

Connectors can fail, and it's not really that expensive to have engineers trained and equipped to do fusion splices.

We looked at using the same Fujikura 90R fusion splicers as the Openreach engineers and wee were pleasantly surprised that they were under £5000 in their basic usable configuration but if you actually spec them up to the semi-auto configuration we wanted (and I believe match what Openreach actually use) we felt they were silly expensive.

If that's not condensation on the wall then what looks like your cast iron waste pipe needs looking at

Lol. I was thinking the same thing.

Hi guys,

When BT came and did the FTTP install I was a bit distracted. I hadn't realised they'd ran the ugly cable right down the front of the house and across my lovely 1930s ornate brick built porch......

I have a grey box outside, and then they've drilled a hole into the "under the stairs" cupboard.

Ideally I'd like to terminate the fibre into the attic and then relocate the modem up there, and run a cat5/6 down to the router.

Without being preached to about touching the CPE, is it a case of unplugging the modem and feeding the fibre back through the house? Or is there a connection outside to the grey box? Was the fibre from the grey box to the modem terminated on site, or is it just a fly lead?

Many thanks

Just play dumb. Phone them up and complain that you told him not to put it there (but he didn't listen). There is a good chance they will move it. And if they don't, you've lost nothing.

Need to fit a new waste pipe in the coming days (moved the bathroom to front of house) -- the cable has become an annoying consequence. I will have to have a first go at rerouting else it'll be "over the top" of the pipe for life :(

I rang BT last week to move my ONT box and they told me to ring Openreach and claim it's not in a safe location anymore due to building work (which is true) Openreach might move it for free
The number they gave me was 0800 023 2023, going to ring them today
