My mum is moving house from a very big 5 bedroom place to a smaller 4 bedroom place.

Everything in the old house is going, as she wants everything new in her new house.

I said to her I would help with getting rid of things, but Im not sure how to go about it.

I dont want to ebay things like sofas, dining tables, computer desks, beds, wardrobes etc.

I considered doing some type of advertisment on the internet but not sure how to go about doing it. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. We will be giving some of the furniture away to local homeless shelters and charities.

Best thing is to offer to sell some of the appliances to the buyers of your mum's old home.

For the rest, perhaps a Bootsale or something?>

Just put an add in the local paper for collection only. If its some cheap ikea stuff then consider giving away for free but also collection only.

A lot of the stuff is worth a bit of money. I will look into freecycle and also local papers to advertise. It would be nice to get as much as we can for some of the more expensive items of furniture.

The new occupiers will be completely gutting out the house so that all that is left is the walls. Not even the plumbing or electrical wiring will be spared.

Have a house sale if you live on or near a main road. Just make up some sandwich boards and stick them in view of passing traffic.

im in the same situation but the other way round, i want stuff for my new house but being a first time buyer i cant really sfford anything, we've been browsing the "free" gear ads in the paper, best place is to put your stuff there. fly tipping is another option :p lol im kiddin...

its quite tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac, but its a good suggestion, I could put some boards up on the nearest main road.

You should get in touch with his mum.

You can put them in the paper for free if they're still under a certain value. Can in our local one anyway. Think it's £75 maximum, so can still make money from stuff for nowt :)

Or just advertise them free to a good home in the same place if you can't be bothered/don't think you'll be able to sell them...

garage sale.

My mate had one and you wouldn't believe the junk people will buy or even just take off your hands.

Good way to clear everything out.

Stuff you definitely want rid of give away free. Saves time and money going to the dump.

Let us know how it goes.

I'm going to do one soon as well for my collection of junk that's accumulated over the last 7 years.

Meh, I need free stuffs for my soon-to-be house.

See if the local charity shop will take some of the stuff, often the collect which saves you the hassle of taking it to the tip.

Cheers for all the replies. Currently putting together an inventory.

I will post the free stuff on here once we have done it so anyone is welcome as long as they come and collect :)

why not ebay? do collection only, ebay is great for selling sofas ect, as you can add photos unlike newspapers and other methods.

Also have a garden sale.

It's a shame the MM doesn't allow for this sort of item to be advertised, I suppose it'd be totally flooded with random crap though!
