If i make a claim on my current insurance company and wish to change company once this year is complete do i have to let the new insurance company know of my previous claim or can i start fresh?
The insurance companies have a shared database. If you don't disclose on application they will probably tell you that you have a claim on your record. A claim will stay on record for 5 years and affect your quote. Honesty is the best policy in this case.
You have to let them know - what was the claim for?
Only accidents that you cause tend to have a big effect on premium, and even then it would probably be roughly only 10%... not too sure though. The NCB tends to have the bigger effect on the premium.
