We have more or less decided to move from BT to O2 for our broadband, however I don't quite know where to start with regards to cancelling and reconnecting. I've read something about a MAC code, and assume it's like PAC codes for mobiles?

I assume that if I cancel with BT there will be a few days between me cancelling with them and connecting with O2, and also that I will have to pay the month off with BT?

As you can tell I have no idea how this works so any tips would be useful.:o:p

do not tell BT you want to cancel. tell them you want to migrate and want your mac code. they have to give it you within 5 working days. i'm not sure how the notice period works. when i left them i was so desperate i didn't care about paying however many days.

once you've got your mac code, you simply sign up with o2. they'll give you an activation date. at some point during the day, you'll lose connection with BT and then about 30 minutes later your new connection will go live. couldn't be easier really. :D

I have just sent for a mac code to migrate away from tiscali, I let you know how it goes . I am also moving to o2.

i hope you guys are using quidco. i wanted to but the ****** o2 website wouldn't accept my debit card details. so i had to order over the phone and lose 50 quid. guttted.

still the 2 months free and general awesome-ness of having a 20mb connection for 9.79 a month still aint too shabby. :D

We migrated to O2 last night as well via the O2 website, MAC code went through no problem and when we got to the credit/debit card section it kept refusing the card saying that the details do not match the previous page's direct debit details even though all the details were correct  did this happen to you as well? Ended up ringing O2 in the end & got everything sorted out within 10 mins & the O2 bloke managed to set up payments with the same card without a problem & blamed the problem on the website. Anyway so even though we are not connected with O2 yet, they have been brilliant wth keping us up to date of the switching over process & the status of them checking over our telephone line and activation date and alerting us via text etc they have even told us that the router has been dispatched & is on its way!

I could not get the o2 website to accept my card details either last night. I rang them this morning and all went smoothly. o2 are keeping me informed as well via text ,router will be here on the 11th and activation date is 13th. Can`t come soon enough to get away from tiscali!!! The broadband with o2 will be on wireless as i have not had wireless before how easy is it to set up?

Snap. Told us that the router would arrive by the 11th (hopefully it will turn up tomorrow!) and that the activation date is on the 13th, they even said that our telephone line from the tests they have done is capiable of at least 8Meg+ (hoping the actual speed will be at least 10Meg!) and our current Sky configuration is capped at 4Meg. To set up everything up will be fairly straight forward I imagine as when we set up our Sky broadband before, we connected the router up on the activation date, connected up straight away and connected to the router via the comp & the internet all worked. This is because on the Sky routers, Sky write your Sky Broadband username & password into your router before they send it out to you so you are ready to go as soon as you receive the router. We will see if the O2 router is the same or if they supply a welcome pack with the username & password and then log into the router when its all connected up and set the router up with your broadband details that way. Either way its really straight forward to do.

o2 said that bt have told them my line only supports upto 2meg. I dont really care as long as i have a stable internet connection. Unlike tiscali where constantly dropping connection.

Got home at 2 this afternoon and have already received the router from o2. fast sevice from them as they told me it would be here on the 11th. also received a letter from tiscali saying sorry that they are losing my custom.

Also just received our new O2 router in a very slimline box delivered by DHL, quality service!

My account was activated yesterday but due to my mate having my pc at his house i had to wait till this morning to set up o2 broadband wireless. My mate has stopped loads of unwanted processes from running at start up which speeds up the start time of the pc. ( Just under a minute to boot up pretty impressed.)
Set broadband wireless up this morning which took around half an hour. Previously my download speed was around 1meg with tiscali, with o2 its now just over 6 meg even though they said my line only supports 2 meg. I can defininately see a big increase in down load speeds and are very happy with o2 .Fantastic service from o2 keeping me updated all through the migration process from tiscali. Also it was very easy to set up.
