I'm working with this file and I need to move it on to another computer to carry on working with it but my only was (atm) is using a DVD. How can (if I can) I split this file across two DVD's - or do I have to go and get some dual layer media?

(never used this before is it used in the same way as single layer media?)

do you have winrar or 7zip installed (7zip is free by the way)

add to archive, then, tell it to 'split' at 4000mb, and turn comrpession off so its just its set to 'store' mode,

now you'll have two files..

filename.7z.001
filename.7z.002

burn each to a dvd, then copy back to other pc, open 001 in 7zip on the 2nd pc, drag the file from the 001 archive and make sure 002 is in the same directory as it, then it'll find 002 to get the 2nd part of the file..

or if they're on the same network, then you can right click the folder, sharing + security, share the folder, then on pc2, start, run, \\pc1'sname and you'll see the shared folder, simply drag the file to your pc and it'll copy it..

-pc2 needs to have ntfs or it won't be able to store the file.. (fat32 has a limit of around 2gb i think)

Cheers bledd.,

I'm trying to get this file shifted to a mac (better video/graphics editing software on it atm) so would that be a problem; could stuffit (is that right?) unzip them?

I'm assuming this is a video file of some sort??

If so then VirtualDub can be used to cut the file into smaller pieces and put it back together again.

Erm... actually i'm not sure if VirtualDub will work on Mac...

If its a video file then you could cut it up and use your video editing proggie on the mac to put them back together again?
