Moving my 775 bits into an HTPC chassis...what fan for CPU cooling?

Hi guys

I'm building an HTPC out of some old Socket 775 bits and pieces and an 8800GT, all shoved into a Silverstone Sugo SG07 case.

The CPU is an E2140, currently clocked to 3GHz. I may reduce this clock for cooling reasons and I may have no choice as I'm not sure that my mobo, the Zotac G41ITX-A-E, will be able to attain this clock anyway.

Anyway my question is...what fan would do a good job of moving air over the CPU in a very quiet way? I have 117mm height to work with in total, the heatsink is a Prolimatech Samuel 17 so that leaves 72mm for the fan.

Many thanks.

Hi,
I have a HTPC with a 6300 at 2.1ghz cooled with a Artic Freezer pro, the only fan in the case as there is an 90mm hole at the back of the case it can blow to.
I also have a HTPC with a Ninja mini and a single 90mm fan on low speed.
Isnt the idea of the Samuel to mount a slow speed 120mm fan on top though ?

What case is that in? By my calculations an Arctic Freezer Pro does not fit inside a Sugo SG07.

Indeed, and I'm asking which fan.

Surely any fan that fits the dimensions will be ok? You could perhaps mount something to the side of the heatsink instead or wouldn't that create the cooling you require?

Not sure on the Nvidia card, but my HTPC with a Radeon (think its 4550) offloads most of the work to the graphics card so I would suspect a passive heatsink would even handle the heat the procs doing (like 2-5% load). Its using an E6750 with stock intel fan.

So you may not need any overclock at all anyway. Ok the boot time etc may be a tad longer. So for me by far the most heat generating device inside the case seems to be the HDDs. Im using a Silverstone LC17 which is pretty roomy, but never really seems to get heat buildup.

I would go with this fan if I were you. This one would also be a good choice.

Thanks, I'll check them out.

Thanks for the replies, but I'm not looking for 'ok', I'm looking for quiet. And my heatsink cannot have things mounted on its side.

Running the 2140 passive sounds suspect to me...the SG07 does have a 180mm fan at its top though, so maybe if I undervolt the CPU...
