I'm reinstalling Windows to a new HDD. How do i move my Origin games over to the new HDD. Do I just install Origin on the new HDD and copy and paste the Origin games folder from program files to the new HDD.

I want to do this without downloading al my games again.

It's a right pain in the arse if you've got some old installers you downloaded a while back. I've still not worked out how to get it to pick them up after faffing about telling it where the game installer / cache folder is. Used to be able to get it to work but I read some EA forum post saying they'd changed to some different type of installation "download in place" or some nonsense, whereby it automatically installs games when you download them unlike the old method of downloading installers and then choosing when you want to install them.

I think it may be best to let Origin think the game isn't downloaded and just run the setup from the installer directory, this may work for some games (assuming you've got the installers saved of course).

It certainly isn't as simple a procedure as Steam. I have 13 games on Origin and recently moved them to a new drive. 10 of the 13 were simply detected as being downloaded and simply had to be 'installed' again to create the registry link. Fifa 13, Shift 2 Unleashed and Super Street Fighter IV however, I had problems with.

Fifa detected that it was 85% downloaded and proceeded to re-download the remaining files. It finished downloading but would them not get past the screen after the connecting to servers. I had to uninstall it and re-download it completely. Unleashed 2 was similar in that it was approximately 84% detected but would download and get to 96-97% before the download would fail. I tried this 5 or 6 times. I then decided to download the entire 7gb again, but it failed again at 94%. It eventually downloaded at the 2nd full time of downloading. Bare in mind my connection is only 3mb so downloading 6-7gb takes around 6 hours!!!

No matter what I did with Super Street Fighter, Origin would not detect any of the game files. I believe this is due to the installation being outside the main origin games folder and in a seperate Capcom folder. I tried putting the files inside the download cache folder, the origin games folder and in the capcom folder but neither attempt was succesful and I had to again download the entire 9gb again.

My conclusion, EA really need to sort this out and create a backup facility or a similar method to Steam so that games do not have to be continually downloaded. On a slow connection it really is a pain. I spent the best part of 3 days getting my Origin games installed intact.

Installed Windows 8 other night and re installed Origin. In the past it had detected my game folders after changing the install directory and restarting the client. This time however it did not.
However when I selected download it went through the installation procedure and detected the content that was already there. Small updates for the games already there so not too bad. BF3 did need to a download 2GB but that might be because I haven't played it since just before the last expansion pack came out.

I have just had to reinstall windows 7(due to my exe files going missing) and now Origin isn't finding any of my games and it looks like I will have to download and install them all, is this right and what about my saves?????

It is a doddle.

Works fine with Origin games. I have all of my Origin games bar one on a mechanical drive and BF3 on an SSD. Origin is on my other SSD so it is split between three drives and works fine.

Just tried this on my Origin Games folder. Copied the game files to my hdd. Checked my C drive and have nearly 60GBs extra free space, only problem, deleted all the games. The only thing on my hdd were a few files for each game, about 20mbs each. And because it deleted all the client.exe files, I have had to uninstall Origin and re-install, so I am now in the process of downloading all my games.
In regards to other files and folders, it does`nt actually move them but just copies them.
