I currently have a 1Tb drive with windows on it and a second drive with Ubuntu on it, I have decided that i want to use my second hdd with ubuntu as my steam directory and i want to know if its possible to transfer the ubuntu os to a spare hdd and have it still work?

Thanks

Yup, sounds like you want to clone the drive.
If you have a seagate drive, seagate provide a free limited funtionality version of Acronis called Discwizard which allows you to clone, image backup and restore. Done a few drive transfers in the past with it. I have found it simplest to do os clones via the softwares recovery bootdisk but it can also be done within windows.

There are others available (partition magic, macrium reflect and many more) but once I found somthing that did what I needed I havent bothered to find out more, someone else may have alternate sugestions.
Thanks allot :)
