Whose done so? And is there any advice you can give?

Basically this evening I was told by my parents that they want me to move out. It's all come on a bit sudden, a week ago they started making me doing my own washing and ironing, then they started leaving my cups and plates to one side so I could do them and then started leaving me out of dinner arrangements. Then this... And as far as I know, I haven't done anything wrong. But I can't be bothered to argue, so I'm gonna move out.

I don't care if you think I should talk to my parents about all of this, all I want is advice on where I should be looking and what at. I.e. Houses or flats? how much should be reasonable rent/month? Should I get a 2 Bedroom and look to share? Are there any grants I can get because of my age/job situation (part time, but looking for full time)? Should my council be able to provide any accomodation at a slightly cheaper price than letting agencies?

I understand that I will have to look into this more but hoping for some quick answers.

find a 6month flat share with several other people to start with, Friends if poss but randoms if needed. This will give you the insight how everything works while keeping costs down and it's only for 6months.
As far as I know there's no grants until you have lived away from your parents for x amount of time.

Try to move in with friends, you'll be looking at ~£250/month rent depending on your area, that's based on a house shared 4 ways - probably the same for a flat though.

Do not underestimate the other costs, they bite you right in the ass. For instance have you any idea how much council tax you will be asked to pay in the sort of places you're looking at?

As far as I'm aware there's next to no support available to you.

:edit: RE the part time situation, just get a full time job. If you're really serious about moving out that's what you're going to have to do.

First things first, can you really afford it? Look at s1 rentals for rough prices.

I can't afford it by myself at the moment, but hopefully I can when I get a full time job.

Me and 2 very friends (a couple), were looking at sharing a 2 bedroom flat for a year (they'll be going to uni next september) and that obviously seemed a more affordable route.

Edit: I have no idea what additional costs there are but I know its split between gas, electric, water, council tax, tv liscence, telephone line and internet (a must have :D)

Have you thought about going to Uni yourself? Not only is it an easy source of accomodation but there are also grants available plus you come out with something.

I have but for now I want a break of education. I'm sick of being in a classroom and being talked down to by teachers. The grades I'm expecting from college aren't exactly great either so my selection of universities would be very limited.

Uni is a lot different from school. Its basically up to you to do whatever you want, if you don't want to go to lectures then you don't need to go. Your treated as an adult.

Thats not what happens at Uni.

Basically, you have loads of house parties, meet girls and get drunk lots. Sometimes there are lectures, too.

Very true and well worth it, however you do have to consider the amount of debt these days. I came away with 10k, but i hear it's more like 20-25k these days.

Don't have any illusions it's a huge part of your pay packet and it certainly isn't the cheapest loan you get. Due to the sheer amount of time you take to pay it back, other loans are set the interest rate might be higher but as you pay it back faster.

Did you stay in the halls in your first year though?

Uni is an incredible experience that you'd be unfortunate to miss out on. It's nothing like school.

Nope, and I don't drink, so I just got to do the meet girls and attend house parties thing :D

It's so good I'm going back for more in September although I suspect there will be rather more work this time around :p

Don't see how that makes the slightest bit of difference :p

From what I've been told living at home in the first year you miss out on a lot of crazy happenings in the halls if you simply stay at home which sounds pretty boring if I'm honest.

Based on accounts from friends who did stay in the halls and those that didn't..
