Ok so I'm looking at moving into a flat on my own within the next few months and was wondering what bills apart from rent I can expect to recieve and also a rough idea of how much they will be.

The main ones I've thought about so far are :

Council tax - ?

Gas - ?

Water - ?

Electricity - ?

Also how does it all work ? Do I just move into the flat and after the first month the bills will start rolling in automatically ? or do I need to arrange utility providers and stuff ?

It's a pretty daunting prospect !

take your own gas & electric readings before you've so much as plugged in the kettle. ring your preferred gas & leccy supplier to register & give them said said readings, ring your local water supplier to register, do like wise for your local council. & not forgetting of course, to sort out your internet & landline if you still use one.

job done ;)

You need to phone everyone as soon as you can after you've moved in and sort out Gas/Electricity, Water, Council tax, TV License, Phone/Internet, Insurance (If renting then only need contents really and thats approx £10-15pm)

Almost all of the costs will vary depending on where you live. If I had to guess I would say all of that will be between 150-200 providing you live on your own.

Couple of things will really shoot up the costs such as having a gas oven or no water meter. And don't forget if you're renting then you will need a bond which is usually equal to one months rent, which you get back after you move out.

electricity
water
food
washing stuff for clothes
internet
tv licence
insurance
gas/oil

the list goes on and on...make a budget and stick to it
