A 3g/4g sim which allows tethering, or a dongle.

Find a nice friend with BT internet password and log into the nearest hotspot FON site.

Serious response - ask the landlord if it's ok to have Virgin (cable) internet. It was NTL back in my days, but I asked and he said it was ok. That was even with the engineer wiring the necessary cabling up to my bedsit. The only thing is that the other tenants will probably ask you to share your connection via wi-fi. One of mine did and it worked out well because he paid half towards my bill.
