Moving out of uni halls - Costs

I lived in an old 6 bedroom house last year at uni. It was an old Victorian terrace with high ceilings, big rooms and a damp cellar- it guzzled gas and electricity. Was an average of £50 a month in gas and £70 in electricity.

Nowadays, prices will have gone up by 10%. Even in a modern efficient house, assume £100 for Gas and electricity per month.

At least the rent was only £205 a month.

Ok cheers that helps. As the house we're probably going to get is an old victorian one so likely to lose heat from all sides of the house. When you say £50 a month for gas that's in total right? Not each?

I had 2 other mates in my flat in Portsmouth, we paid £82 a week, for all utility bills included. The flat overlooked the sea, literally 50 metre's from the beach :)
One of the rooms was absolutely huge and had a view of the sea with mini balcony.
All had double beds with masses of space left. :)

Downsides...

No hot water between 10am - 5pm and 10pm - 5am, THIS PART WAS A NIGHTMARE.
Sometimes the heating was the same, it got absolutely freezing in winter, to the point where i couldn't type.
45 minute walk to uni.
Still had to pay for TV License and Internet/Phone bills.

Still, i miss the place and living in a flat/house is so much fun with your mates when all you have to do it uni work, not a 9-5 job :)
