Moving to Cardiff...

I've been accepted for a job at a digital agency in Cardiff and will be moving there in a month or so

However, i'll admit to not knowing a huge amount about the place and so am wondering where the best areas to live are.

Things to bare in mind are that i'm in my early 20's, and don't really want to be surrounded by students! but i need to be within walking distance to work (which is right in the centre).

Any tips of the best places to live would be really appreciated

most places in walking distance of centre will either cost loads or be surrounded by students.

plenty of nice areas are short bus rides though.

Live as far away in Cardiff from the Newport side as possible.

I work in Cardiff and live only 20mins away from the Center of Town...

I would look at Roath or around that area to be honest, either that depending on your price range you could look for a flat down in Cardiff Bay area...

Failing that, look to live around the Newport Rd area which isn't that far away...

Living that close to the center though is going to be pricey considering you want to walk, how far are you willing to walk?

Correct. Although he could commute to England, support Leeds and really have a awful place to reside. Nightmare.

I thought Roath/Newport road and surrounding areas were full of students?

Instead of looking at a place in the centre try and get a place near a train stop. Local trains are cheap, and you have a greater choice of accomodation.

They are very big areas within Cardiff, to be honest, there is nowhere in the center of Cardiff that's not full of students...

Unless you go a little farther out to Fairwater or Canton/Ely (But Canton/Ely are the rougher areas)

Either that or you could try Pontcanna just at the top of Cathedral Road which is a very nice area and not a student in site

Roath seems to be a place where my friends ended up, lots of students there thou, but it doesn't mean its a bad thing, it's not like they live in your house is it? plus its only 20 mins walk to the center or there are lots of buses that goes that way (get off at sainsburys).

Go to Grange town near Ikea/Asda way if you want further out and over there would really be studentless.

lol Grangetown is like the bronx, I live in Splott, it's a good area and very close to town, lots of buses available etc.
