Here come the anti-welsh brigade of OCUK

Cardiff centre is a really nice area with plenty of trendy bars and shops. I won't admit to knowing much about where to live but the bay is nice for flats, although if you end up in a student area, make sure it's near Ramones breakfast bar, best breakfast in the world! :D

I quite like Cardiff :) There's too many "trendy" chain bars, but still loads of decent pubs. There's lots of redevelopment going on at the moment, should hopefully brighten the city centre up a bit more. The students aren't that bad, only one or two unconcious ones to step over on the odd occasion ;)

Like pretty much any major city, there's good areas and bad areas.

I'm always surprise when people feel the need to comment on something they know very little about :)

A few questions that don't seem to have been asked:

1. Where in Cardiff is your new job?
2. What is your budget?
3. Are you looking to rent/buy?
4. How far are you willing to travel - are you happy to drive or would you prefer to use public transport?

1. CF24 0EL
2. £650/month or so
3. rent
4. I have a car (so need parking) but would really like to walk to work

Matt, try find someone to flat share and get a place in Admiral House, it is DEAD center and a GREAT building, and beautifully furnished. It has its own car park with remote electronic gate, 24hours security guard at the lobby, the building is about 18 months - 2 years old top so it's brand new. The only thing is that for a 2 ned flat it's about £800p/m, my sister lives in one at the moment up there and she managed to get it down to about £675 between her and her bf so i'd give that a go, i think there are some 1 bed flats in the building too. When she moved in it was so new all the doors in the empty flats were open and I had a peak on the flats on her floor and I remember seeing some 1 bed flats.

I swear you didn't read the OP...

He said he wants to walk and it was right in the center of Cardiff, I assume he means on Queen St or very close as that's what's classed as the "center"..

I've already asked how much he wants to spend, I think he just wants an idea of what areas tbh

As for Cardiff, I quite like it. Quite modern, has all the shops you want. From department stores, to your regular high street shops, some nice bars and what not. Lots of students so the place is quite busy in terms times and lots of young faces. There are a lot of developments going on in the center at the moment, 1 part of town is just a GIANT building sites with half a dozen cranes around. I would say the down side of the place is that I feel it is quite soul less, yes it has a castle and the bay but they are just boring to me. There is just something missing about the place that a connection i don't get in Cardiff like I get with Brighton, and I lived in Cardiff longer.

Sorry Sir - I got distracted by some of the dumb comments in this thread :D

Ps. We say "centre" in these parts ;)

Cardiff is a dump.
Last time i went there was august bank holiday 2006 to see my Nan.
Within 45 minutes of parking up someone had stoved the windows of my new van in just for fun.
I've been everywhere in the country near enough, and cardiff is the only place I have not felt safe in, even before the van incident.
Its a **** hole.
