Howdy all,

So yeah, I’m basically moving from the not so sunny midlands to hull, well technically hessle which ive been assured is nice :) , to move in with the other half following her promotion (conveniently close to her family). i’ve secured a transfer, so the job front is all sorted, but of course i’m giving up everything i’ve ever known, so the whole prospect is quite daunting!

sooo if anyone is from the area any advice would be nice, and if you could recommend any gyms? Would like to continue 5-a-side at some point so is there any local places to take this up? The best boozers?

And im not begging for friends but would be nice to get to know a few people in the area so feel free to say hi

Thanks

Phil

Though I can't recommend any gym (I have a home "gym") and I dislike football.

As for boozing, I generally stick to the princess avenue area, a little less rough than the center of town.

Dont go drinking in town, its a **** hole, as Rich said go down Princess ave or Newland ave, all the pubs down both these streets serve good quality food as well.
I use Quick Gym, which is cheap at £12 a month and has everything you need without the thrills. Its also next door to a five a side centre.

Old town has some decent bars, most of the pubs and clubs are disgusting though. Hessle is ok I guess, Hessle road is full of crackhouse-esque properties though.

I lived in Hull between 2002 and 2005 (Student) and whilst I loved my time there and have great memories of the place, I can't imagine how far it will have gone downhill with current state of the economy, the last time I was there must have been 06/07 and even then I couldn't believe the amount of boarded up and closed down places on my walk down Bev Rd.

Prepare for bad internet.

Gyms wise Xercise4Less in Hull is good. £12 rolling contract, so much equipment.

Boozers depends if you mean pubs or clubs. There is a large student population so a lot of student places.

Ahhh you guys know how to ease my nerves :D

Ohh well it's not like what you described is any different to my home town of Wolverhampton! Thought Internet is a real concern damn Karoo and their monopolistic ways!

Have you thought this through properly? Both of these seem like things right-minded folk would aggressively try to avoid have happening to them (I assume you are letting this happen to you rather than making these awful choices yourself).

yeah ive thought it through - basically i hated the job ive left, i need to move back out of the rents, wolves isnt exactly that glorious, and most importantly shes an amazing lass (i think i will limit the sopyness to that)

I quite often have to work in Hull, it's bad but probably no worse than most other cities.

Here's a guide for you on what must be the worst accent in the UK.

i moved to Hedon (opposite side of Hull to Hessle) for a new job last year and havent looked back, i moved from a house with the beach at the end of the street in Cleethorpes and although it was a great area to live i much prefer where i am now.

I used to live in Hull, and went to Wescott Primary that had the 'retard' issue a few years back, but moved when i was 13, going back they have upgraded East Park a lot but Holderness Road is still as i remember.

i unfortunatly dont know much about gyms or going out and about around town, i have heard good things about the Spiders nightclub (if your into Rock/Metal) but not been yet, dont know when i will either with a wife and 2 young daughters.

as for broadband your stuck with one option KC (Karoo) and its not that bad, its just over priced and you have no other option.

also, your not actually moving to Hull, your under a different council, its still very close and you will find yourself in Hull itself for most things but you wont actually live there. i lived in Hull when i was growing up and have very few bad memories of the place but when i got my current Job i wanted to move close to work but didnt want the hassle of living in the city itself

Edit: too add to chipperheads photo, since moving my 5 year old is slowing picking up the 'Ull accent and its very strange, i know growing up i also used to talk with the accent but grew out of it while living away

and thanx for the feedback guys very useful, my clubbing days are over i prefer a good pub that serves plentyful ales these days :)

Worked there for a few ears in BP at Saltend. Never found anything wrong with a night out in Hull that was any worse than Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow etc
