Very harsh, like most places it has good and bad areas. The good areas being the villages that surround it. I will concede that the best feature of Warrington is the ability is to get out of it However this is because of the central location and the fact it is surrounded by 3 major motorways and crisscrossed with railways making it a good commuted hub.

One thing I can say for Warrington is that I have never been shot at there which is something I cannot say for Leigh/Atherton

Actually I agree with you...went to Great Sankey the other day and the place where I was was lovely

Shot at in Atherton! I expect that from some areas of Leigh...but not Atherton - except maybe on Hag Fold estate (as mentioned in my post, above the rail way line...)

There are nicer areas in Warrington, like you say the surrounding areas, but the majority is not so....

We used to live in Altrincham and my missus is from Sale originally so know the area well.

I'd personally be looking in that general area, Timperley is worth a look too. Hale and Bowden are very nice too but maybe out of budget with all respect.

Northern Quarter and Castlefields are pretty good if you want to sample a bit of city living.
