Moving to Micro Storage

So I have desktops for games and heavier stuff.

But I'm finding outside of work, I end up doing most of my office type work on the laptop.
As such I find using larger portables, 3.5, 2.5 a pain, and have moved all my personal data including photos, to Flash Drives.
I was running my regular backup (more of a sync) to a 2.5 portable.

But I'm thinking I could do it to another flash drive just as easily, as they are big enough now.
Retire the 2.5 to just media and long term storage. 3.5 portables, just retire into the desktops.
We were even discussing if MicroSD is sufficient for intermediate backups. I do a backup (well a mirror) every week or so, then another one to a larger drive, every couple of months. Then I've an older say once 6-12 months. Then to DVD for Photos and personal data every few years.

I get that the flash drives and MicroSD have limited writes, and perhaps are more likely to get corruption.
But has anyone done anything similar. Move to smaller physical storage?

Don't want it on the cloud. Not much data. A NAS would be overkill.
Not much personal stuff is about 180GB so fits on a 256GB Flash Drive. Everything including media fits in 3TB, so fits on 4TB.
Then I have a about 4 levels of backup. But its a snapshot/mirror, not an incremental backup.

Obviously games and such are on a seperate drive I don't keep backups of this, don't need to either.
