Hi

I am moving to Sheffield in a month or so for the next two years. I therefore need somewhere to live, I will be working in the S3 postcode and have the following requirements.

-Got to be quite close to work , do not want to move 100 miles and then be 1hr travel from work. Ideally under 30mins.
-Parking
-Flat although house considered.
-Max £650 pcm
-No sharing
-Either a large 1 bedroom or a 2 bedroom place for when I have people over.

Can anyone recommend me any decent developments or hell holes to avoid.

Thanks :)

If I were you I'd look for places south of the S3 area, maybe Crosspool/Broomhill would suit you? Failing that if you wanted to live in the city centre you'd easily get a 2 bed apartment for 650pcm. Hard to recommend anything too specific in terms of travel to work as S3 is a fairly big area. :)

Hoyle Street if that helps. :)

Hoyle street is walking distance from the town centre. There are hundreds of flats if not thousands around there. Most are student properties, but plenty aren't.

You won't have any trouble finding somewhere nice within walking distance, I almost guarantee it.

I knew Hoyle street rang a bell. My mate used to work in the HSBC office there. It got on his nerves so he went to the pub and never went back.

Hoyle Street is just down the road from me. There are a huge amount of houses in the area around it, can't help with non-student houses though I'm afraid. The area seems ok though.

crookes / broomhill has a fair few student places

city road / granville road the same, that is right near the train station as well

Hillsborough you may find something a bit cheaper as it isnt exactly a student area

Woodseats...not much of a student area but probably more expensive than Hillsborough

They are kinda the 4 areas that circle the city centre

My mate was renting a top floor flat at the bottom end of town for about the price you are looking at as well, was a gorgeuos flat overlooking town

I would go for city centre. I moved to Sheffield on a very last minute spur of the moment kinda thing. The first time I came to Sheffield was the day we were looking for somewhere to live, and had to find somewhere by the end of the day.

Ended up with a place near West Street, with secure underground car parking, 1 bed, 4th floor, building ~2 years old for £475pcm. The plan being to stay here for 6 months, and then move elsewhere once we sus out where we'd like to live. That was 14months ago :)

How close to work do you want to be? Near Hoyle Street there are some nice new developments. Where Hoyle Street meets Penistone Road, there is a nice looking modern building there. Look around Kelham Island. I can't for the life of me remember what those developments are called... but there are a lot of them.

Further away from work and much nearer the centre there is Morton Works, West Point, Mandale House, further down toward Devonshire Green there is West One - which is huge and modern. Velocity tower is worth a look as well on Broad Lane. (next door to Plusnet HQ)

This too. I work in S9 and it can take me upwards of 45mins to get home sometimes (it's 3 and a half miles ffs!)

S9 isn't too bad compared to Parkway:eek:

Why did you move to the centre if you were working at S9 anyway?

I have looked around there, there seems to be a few good local pubs and a few decent places.

Seems massively cheaper, there must be a reason.
