Getting a new SSD later as my original one failed. I have Windows up and running on a HDD and I want to transfer everything over. My question is what's the best way to do this? Should I back up my HDD to the SSD or is there just a way to mirror the drive? I would like to mirror it if possible as I would like to keep the HDD the way it is incase of future failures.

Do you have a copy of Norton Ghost. It will do pretty much what you described.

If you get the Samsung 830 256GB SSD then you will get a free copy of Norton Ghost with the package just as I did from OC

what ssd are you getting? some come with software to mirror

The OCZ Agility 3. I'm not sure if it has software for it I'll check it, thanks.

No I don't have a copy and there's absolutely no way I'd install Norton on anything after reading about the hundreds of fiascos it's caused for people! lol thanks though.

You are refering to their ani virus programs which I would not touch either. Ghost is ok and different.

Personally, if it were me, I would re-install from fresh, but that is me.

use free macrium reflect and clone the drive to your new one,it will be bootable just like the original drive
