Ok I've pretty much over saturated myself on TF2 as a sniper, and tbh I'm getting fed up of the constant spam from demomen and soldiers !! :)

Can anyone suggest the best multiplayer games to engross myself in as a sniper ? I could quite happily spend hours at a time just scoping for that perfect opportunity, I find the maps in TF2 far too small for the frowned upon camping style that I prefer !

What's COD4's multiplayer like for sniper gameplay ? How big are the maps ?
Any other suggestions ?

i'd say that cod4 doesnt really cater for the sniper that well. i'm not saying you can't succeed but you can be outshot by pretty much all the weapons simply because you have to hold your breath while sniping which takes a second or so to steady the scope, and it's an easy game to aim/ with low recoil assault weapons.

even at full map distance it's easy to kill somone with the deagle for example. a very annoying example is that you can snipe someone who is using 'last man standing' perk, who then hits the deck and pulls out their pistol, not only does the game point them in the direction they were shot from , they also have perfect aim and while you are steadyind your scope they just take you down in one shot from whatever range. /end rant about last man standing perk also.

it can be fairly challenging, but that can also make it more fun in a way, rather than other games where sniping is a lot more simply like CS i guess where there is no scope sway.

also the majority of maps are small! alternatively there are some sniper custom map servers which are aparrently good.

Ghost Recon and Delta Force 2 are the best sniping multiplayer games I know of, but they are dated now :( not many other games can provide that cover and vegitation (or grass from df2) that they had, so you always end up a sitting duck... ghillie suit in urban combat .... gee thanks, not exactly catering for the sniper.
 
crysis you can even remain prone and cloaked until you shoot forget cod 4 for sniping.
 
Red orchestra maybe. not everyone's kind of game but quite good for sniping if you can get the slot (there are limited slots for each type as per many games):

Mohaa aint bad for sniper action depends on server tho as ppl will call u a camper if u snipe so as i said the choosen server is important.
 
Sniping on some of the larger maps in Battlefield 2 can be fun, providing your not that bothered about having the highest score. Moving around without being seen and getting a good shot can be good fun.

On infantry only maps you can have a great time on BF2 as a sniper, just settle in near a flag that the enemy are after and pick them off one by one. Jalabad is especially good for this as there's plenty of rooftops.
 
used to play a great sniping mod for bf2 called scoutys sniper mod, added a new version of .50 sniper rifle and allowed a zoom function on all scoped weapons allowing kills beyond 1000 yards.
 
I quite enjoy sniping in BF2, or atleast I did when I played it.

Used to be quite good fun just working my way round the field maps, hiding amongst the various forests and being patient waiting for targets.
 
Id recommend BF2 on an infantry only map, there are still enough people playing, the hardest part is to find a decent spot without getting shot...
 
Just echoing the BF2 suggestions. Infantry only is fantastic fun as sniper.

I actually find sniping in COD4 rather fun, as the game has fantastic vegetation and undergrowth, making the camo suit VERY useful.

Possibly one of my favorite online sniper roles goes to Joint Operations. You had to take into account distance, because bullets were affected by gravity, and bullet speed. Also, the vegetation system worked at the full extent of the (massive) maps. Even at a distance where vegetation was not being rendered. It used a very clever camo system, so if you were in tall grass at a distance where grass would not be rendered it would camouflage your character. I loved that.

only when the opponents have high gfx settings, everyone else will see a big furry sniper sat in the middle of a field with no cover :/
 
BF2 , fantastic game for snipers
BF2142 , different style but easily as much fun
Delta force series, some of the older versions were immense fun both sp/mp
