MP Sniper Gameplay

Play as the GDF in Quake ET.
Although the game is designed to favour other types of play and the enemy being able to see the sniper trails is a real issue, I have found it has increased my skills as a keyboard sniper because it forces you to change location regularly instead of just camping like a cruddy noob!
I have never found a game better/more fun for sniping than CoD2 though.

For BF2, beware that attempting to snipe realistically (i.e. using stealth and camping techniques) is a highly fruitless strategy, since the gameplay mechanics and 3D engine features of BF2 are far from realistic.
I find, running from place to place and taking on targets head on to be much more fun, with a lot more kills to be had. In fact, snipers camping in high places are pretty much sitting ducks for me.

I don't agree, you can be really effective as a sniper on some maps, you just have to learn not to just sit on the edge of rooftops for people to pick you off. If you stay mobile, don't make yourself obvious and use your claymores wisely you can spend most of the round quietly picking people off without dying.
BF2 Mod Project Reality has huge maps and massive view distances, sniper rifles with a big double zoom, and you can dig yourself in quite well in many of the maps.
The sniper class is limited so you can't be it all the time though

BF2 definately - can sit in one spot for a while before you get noticed.
Failing that, COD:UO and COD2 have loads of servers running custom sniper maps

Americas Army is good for sniping.. i remember a map that was a bridge, pretty much a complete stalemate due to the snipers 
Sniper Elite
If you can get along with starforce being installed on your pc, or not as the case may be, then I thoroughly recommend Sniper Elite. Single player is rewardingly direct, with mavity, windage, heart rate and stance taken into consideration. Topped off with a funky bullet camera cut of you blasting some fellows brains out of the back of his head.
The levels just never seem to end, well they do, there's just a whole bunch of 'em. Line up those heads and pull the trigger for a 3 for one kill or use the cover of exploding artillery to mask your shots. Shoot out the tyres and petrol tanks of vehicles or snipe that grenade dangling off a soldiers belt and dispatch an entire squad. With a little time and creativity you'll be popping NKVD heads like a professional
Multilayer is pretty good, with a range of different maps, some of which are quite detailed. Heart rate and mavity are used in mp, but not windage.
There was talk of the hosted servers shutting down (no real dedicated server you see) but gameplay was quite lively last time I had a go a few weeks back.
By far the most 'realistic' dedicated ww2 sniping game out there.

just for anyone else wanting some decent sniper gameplay.
I ended up buying COD4 in the end. Using the http://cod4tracker.com I have found a fair few decent sniper only modded servers. Excellent game, and some really excellent MP custom sniper maps are available.
