hi all,

i have 2 1.8" hard drives from a couple of mp3 players but unfortunatly they have been locked to ATA mode, if i bought a 1.8" to 3.5 to ide adapter would i be able to unlock the drives to run in CF mode?

cheers

not too sure what CF mode is, but I have a 1.8 notebook drive in my tower, attached via a 1.8 to 2.5 adaptor. It is recognised as running in CHS mode by default, and works fine in windows :)

transfer speeds are respectable enough, and seek times are similar to that of my other 7200 drives.

*edit*
not sure if this'll get edited out, as I know the mods around here don't like links to competitors, but I got my 1.8 to 2.5 ide adaptor from ebay for 99p!
£2.01 inc postage.. works fine, and the ebay shop had a pile o' them :)
CF mode is compact flash mode, i want to format the drive and use it as a memory stick but it is locked on ata mode so this is not possible
