Hi,

I recently formatted my hd (accidently long story) which had my media files on it..i managed to recover most of the files on there using a program recommended on here..now ive got a different problem..all the files are saved as recovered_mp3_#### however in winamp its fine..im looking for a program that will change the file name and not just the IDv3 tag or w/e if such a thing exists..

thanks for the help

Nah, don't waste time manually, use MusicBrainz Picard tagger, once setup, it acousitcally fingerprints the files/albums and tags them via its database, better than anything on the market for tagging, and totally free. Make sure you have the disc number and album art plugin too and it will even embed art into the tags :)

Yes MusicBrainz can rename and tag, and embed album art, and do it all pretty much by itself. I can't be bothered telling you why you should get it, but trust me, download it try it and set it up properly and there is no doubt in my mind you won't use anything else.

i downloaded it but couldnt find the option to change the filename according to the tag..there was however an option to change the tag according to the filename..

It doesn't rename via tags, because it can't trust tags that you have given it, either lookup the clustered cd, or scan the files and move them around until you're happy then hit save, and it rename applies the right tags and album art all in one go (if you've done it right :))

I use and absolutely love MediaMonkey. If the ID3 tags are still there and intact it can rename to whatever format you want. also it can find the ID3 tag info for some albums. for Sorting the ID3 tags I've found Winamp to be the best, I've got it to rename over 50 albums all of them done flawlessly and for albums up to 18years old to just a couple of days old. I suggest.. use winamp to sort the tags, then use MediaMonkey to rename them :)

Pulse whilst i agree (because i use it too) MediaMonkey (beta) is great, its better for its playing abilities really, i leave it with the odd tagging/renaming task, but honestly hands down Music Brainz Picard is the winner, i've tagged and renamed a complete mess of 30Gb or wrecked music with basically a few hours actual contact time, the rest is just the program sorting it all out for me... There isn't better.

ok thats more or less sorted thanks for the help...another one..anything for movies? or tv series for that matter?
