MPC-HC best codecs?

Rebuilt my HTPC rig recently and installed the latest version of XMBC + MPC-HC as an external player with great results.

Is it worth installing extra / replacement codecs (madvr, haali, lav?) instead of the default MPC-HC codecs to play MKVs? Would the quality improvements be worth the effort.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback.

I have no problems to speak of with the internal codecs, so i am happy. Just wondering if there would be a noticeable improvement in video quality moving to external filters (720p / 1080p content).

MPC-HC uses the EVR by default which looks awful due to edge sharpening and the black level is usually wrong.

Haali is an improvement and MadVR is an even greater improvement.

Thanks, i'll give them a closer look. I was playing last night and i'm using the EVR CP renderer but noticed now that i'm getting dropped frames whenever i move the seek bar to a different time. I don't get any dropped frames during playback itself but pausing or shifting the time back and forth i get drop frames which i'm sure i didn't have previously. Fresh install of W7x64, AMD II 245, AMD 6450 2gb, 8gb ram, ssd boot, media on a server via gigabit lan.

Check out MPC-BE

Has a few enhancements over HC http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18441261

Namely the Aud/Sub buttons on the main screen

Going to give this a go as it looks nice and the addition of the subs button is something i've always missed.

<snip>

This is the best results that I have got trying different combinations.

If you want to know how to do this set up let me know and i can explain.

If you wouldn't mind i'd appreciate this, thanks :)
