You think thats bad, my gf has a 206, 1.1 8v with a whopping 60bhp and that has AC! Now that IS a struggle!

do you actually feel it when you turn it on?

Could be that pre viewings when selling he reset the trip comp and drove up and down to the shop in 6th doing 20mph a few times

MX5 1.8 has a 10 gallon tank and the best i have ever had is 330 miles which was motorway and good a roads the whole way at night.

50mph in 5th (top gear).

that where your going wrong.. try 45 mph or even 40 ...


My car 1.2 clio MK3 ushually sits at around 45 mpg for normal driving you know 60 when in 60 ect
however drop that down to 45 and less It can do 65 mpg, have seen it at 78mpg but that was on a flat following a truck at 50 mph for about an Hour up the m40.

however it does get really boring driving so slow for a long time...

if you want real economy though these are the sacrifices that have to be made.

Figures are about the same as your van then spaz.

The van runs perfectly, no smoke, hesitation or anything. The diesel engine is quite refined too. Doesn't compare to some larger diesels but quite impressive for the size.

I have a replacement fuel filter to fit this weekend. I changed it at last service too so it's not that old. Not sure if this can alter the MPG in any way though?
