Did a long mostly uninterruped run from Cricklewood to Lewisham today (A5,A406 then A12) about 30 miles, 3 round trips as i'm moving my girlfriend to there and shes got loadsa crap.
My cars a SEAT ibiza FR 1.9TDI, usually run about town gives me 41mpg on the computer thing, today it soared up to 68mpg, did'nt believe it but i'm at 3/4 tank @ 210 miles on the trip computer:confused: Cruised mostly 50/60 in 6th all the way up. I usually only see 350-400 a tank muchless 210 to quarter! Is this at all possible or maybe somethings gone screwy? :D

Well 68mpg doesn't seem to be totally unrealistic in the VAG 1.9tdi unit, especially in the circumstances you have mentioned. Just to comapare i recently got about 42mpg to my tank in the Swift (1.5 model) and that was a trek up to Nottingham and back (mostly motorway with some congestion and a bit of town driving too).

My Leon 20TDi FR easily gets 65-70mpg on long motorway journeys. Usually a mix of 60% town driving and 40% motorway gets me just under 600 miles to a tank. Though my range always seems to bomb when i get under half a tank, can get 350miles out of the 1st half and only around 230 from the bottom half

Ta for the replies. Yes, same with my Ibiza, after half it goes fast, my old Focus was the same, all excited about the great mpg then as soon as its under half it drains away like someone pulled a stop plug (was a good run to get 280 miles to a tank in that one! usually topped off at 260 or so, though it was an auto so that might be why):D

My mondeo normally does 43ish on my daily commute but I remember when I had to drive at 50 because I had a space saver on, the computer was showing 89mpg by the time I got to the office

I think if you're cruising under 60 then really high mpg figures are definitely possible but I suspect as the figure gets higher, it gets less accurate

my 1.7dti astra does about 50-60 mpg normal driving so the mpg say anyway. it seems to get about 150miles to each quater normally get about 550 miles+ to a tank most i had was 700miles once that was all motorway munching though. quite impressive figures modern car can give you if you drive correctly :)

The Ibiza's fuel tank is 10 litres smaller than the Leon's. The 350-400 he is getting is driving around town a LCR driven in similair conditions would be lucky to break 250miles.

Heh yep, lots of town traffic and mostly A road rush hour. Also lots of instances of making people eat my soot as well :p
I could see this getting about 500 miles on a long motor way run though!
