I did a trip from here to Surrey and back today, and was pretty amazed by the MPG I got, especially from a 2.0 petrol.

Cruise was set at 80-85 the whole trip on the motorway, and the aircon was on constantly (as usual):

I've done 240 miles so far and the petrol light has just started to come on. My tank is 8.8 gallons so by my calculations I'm getting 27mpg which is amazing. I've never had such good economy before, especially as I haven't exactly been doing any economical driving yet!

Heard that you cant trust those mpg computer trip thingy bobs lol

I fill my car up with £36

I can get 350 miles out of that before it needs another £36.

£36 / 0.969 = 37.15 litres

37.15 / 4.5 = 8.25 gallons

350 / 8.25 = 42.42 MPG

Is that the correct way of working it out?

134bhp I believe...

I'm just amazed a fairly large petrol engine managed that.

Maybe there are a few factors in play...

(1) The MPG dot is broken
(2) There is a spec of muck inbetween the 2 and the 7

Therefore the real MPG is 4.27 MPG, roughly :p

BeatMaster :D

In reality this is a rather good MPG based upon the car and engine size in question, congrats :)

Depends on the car, every time I've worked the figures out, it's been very accurate.

The cars ive had with them, they have been accurate to within around .1 MPG - i'd say you can trust them :)

Eidolon - you should have found that your '2 could manage around 35MPG on a cruise, mine could and it was probably running nearly as much power?

get just over 30mpg in 2.5 litre turbo toyota hilux, which I think is quite impressive :) dont know what BHP it is though :(

I only ever cruised in it one time and I did get 35mpg, the rest of the time it was sub 20mpg :D

So if I'm comparing like for like the Elise is way ahead already. On a run it apparently gets 42mpg which I won't complain about!

Seems to line up, i remember a few 15MPG tanks :p

Elise's economy i guess we can put down to its weight advantage of the lardy '2 :)

(1.25 fiesta by the way)

Yes, you have a silly little engine you need to cane to within an inch of its life to make progress with :p
