MPLS CPE Configuration

Greetings, im looking for someone who has had experience of configuring MPLS at the customer premises on Cisco Routers.

I understand how MPLS works in the cloud and that it's a private service but haven't had a chance to configure it on multiple routers at different sites.

Does an MPLS service use private IP addressing or does the service provider assign you a public address block per site?

If anyone has an example config files it would be a great help.

MPLS would be transparent to the end user dependant on what type of MPLS service you had signed up to.

Indeed but im trying to understand how i would configure a router to connect into the cloud at a customer site.

well it really depends on the provider to some extent, but unless you work for the provider you wouldn't ever really expect to be doing this....

Unfortunately not ill be involved with deploying the equipment at the customer site as part of a distributed Cisco Call Manager proposal.

MPLS will not really extend out to the CPE, if it does it will be pretty much transparent, you'll just configure a point-to-point address and the ISP will do the rest.

Normally the provider <NTL:Telewest/BT IP Clear> will run a leased line to your CPE, allocate you a private BGP AS, and setup a basic peering session, you'll then get sent the routes from the rest of your sites and advertise your connected routes into BGP and into the provider network..
The MPLS side of things only really begins on the PE (provider edge) router of the ISP,

Depends on the setup. As previously covered, you will either be advertising static/connected routes.
We have some services where we have a full layer 2 network, so for example we get the lines into a building from our connectivity partner, we pick the addressing, routing etc. It is literally like having all routers plugged into a switch. Very nice way of doing it, and ultimate control remains in our hands.

Speak to your provider would be my advice.

Have you checked on Cisco's website, there are lot of of PE and P MPLS router configurations.

It's fairly straight forward really, I have't had to configure it for a few years myself.

CPE equipment is not configured for MPLS usually as stated above.
