MR2 Info Required

Dammit, wish i hadnt seen this thread, now im stuck between an MX5 and an MR2....

got around 5k to play with, i think ill just test drive them both.

Have owned a 1992 N/A and currently on a 1992 Turbo...

N/A was a great car to learn the characteristics of mid rear drive. Its not that slow either, producing between 160-175bhp. You will easily get around 28-32mpg aswell. Whereas with the turbo, to get 30+mpg you have to be 60mph down the m1 to be honest. If driving on boost youll drink through a tank in well under 200 miles easily.

Personally i dont find the turbo as bad as people suggest, i must admit i was pretty worried myself before taking the plunge into rear turbo drive... im glad i did though. Mind you im not a fast driver and i tend to be a lot more sensible in the thing. Although i am currently waiting for a grainger valve and fuel cut defender to allow me to up the boost to 14psi...and from what i hear i will probably be scared of the thing from then on :D

yup, adding an RV and upping the boost in my GT4 makes (even standard) boost kick in with a hell of a thump now, tis quite violent :p

the turbo actually handles better than the NA due to having LSD. didnt everyone know that?

Didnt the later rev3+ have LSDs fitted to the N/A too?

As mirrored above, get some decent rubbers on a rev3+ and you'll be laughing in the wet and the dry. Dont go stupid fast for road conditions, and dont get cocky!

Be sure to drive a few (both tubby and N/A) to see which you prefer

If you are driving sensibly then it's a really easy car to drive. There isn't anything to be afraid of except yourself as the driver. You will have to show maturity behind the wheel but if you can do that then you will learn a lot about the handling charateristics and get used to it. Then start to have some fun. :)

As above really... make sure to test drive a few so you can get an idea of what is meant to feel right. Stick good tyres on if necessary. have fun! :)

Probably going to go for an MR2 i think then. MX5 is just too girly for me :o Might even get an import actually. Insurance is £207 more for a UK car but £190 for a Jap import. My friend has a Jap car import business so i might be able to source one from him. Thanks for all the help everyone :)

Just a word of caution on imports is that you never know what their genuine mileage is like, as the clocks are normally changed on them when its imported, plus the complete lack of service history!

At least try the MX5, they really are superb cars.

If I had to choose between an NA MR2 and the MX5 it would be the MX5 every time.
