As title says tbh

Got one next week, she briefly explained what would happen but didnt tell me something....

I gotta get butt naked or what? Whose gonna be lookin too lol

I know, odd questions but im curious :P

Full body or just head? My GF had one recently, you don't need to be naked and you'll be in the room on your own. If it's a head scan then it will last about 20 minutes and there's loads of clanking and banging and strange humming noises. You wear ear protectors because of the noise and you'll have to lie absolutley still, if you're claustrophobic then watch out, as the tunnels are really small :). I sat in whilst my missus had one and had to wear the protectors...to be honest it's quite boring!!

MRI is the one where it shows you all the water molecules in your body, where as xrays show bone iirc. MRI is very safe it doesnt involve radiation. you wont be nekkid but you backside may be on show if you get one of those silly gowns.

Dont worry the size of your man hood wont be on show.

KaHn

Undies or a gown usually - there's no hard and fast rule - YMMV.

Big whirry clicky noises in a white metal tube - nothing too bad (except for the claustrophobia part).

lol Kahn :P

Kay im a bit worried now, I do get a tad scared in small spaces especially 40 mins of being in a small space :/

Its a full body scan (for back) so I guess I will either be in one of them revealing gowns or boxers lol

They will give youheadphones usually playing music to take your mind off things.

You may also be given special glasses that redirect your vision down the tube so you can see out as you don't feel so enclosed.

The tube is only a matter of inches from your nose......it's VERY tight in there.

Just do what they say and think of something nice.

Works for me. :)

I've had two recently on my right foot for a football injury.. Only had to take sock off and roll up my jeans. Was quite uncomfortable though as I had to lower my knee whilst keeping my foot flat so i'd fit into the machine. The specalist told me the elctro magnets they use in them machines are stronger than the earths gravitational pull!

its a bit hard to keep still but nothing to worry about, and it kind of makes a loud buzzing sound. GL

how can they give you headphones? I thought it was a giant magnet basically?

non metal ear protectors I can understand but I dont see how you woul dget a speaker in a headphone so close to such a huge magnetic field?

I had one... fortunately I was in hospital for short term memory loss so i don't remember it... Though if you are claustraphobic its not a nice experience

They are very very noisy, so make sure you wear the ear protectors. There's nothing at all to worry about, they are extremely safe pieces of equipment. The scans will look great too! Basically just do what the nice radiographer says and you'll be fine. A lot of people get bored and go to sleep, which is a good thing because you don't get as much motion artefact on your scans! They'll respect your modesty, you'll probably wear a standard hospital gown and shouldn't really have to take off your underwear unless you're having a scan "down there".

You're probably best asking the radiographer who does the scan all these questions rather than a bunch of people on the internet though!

I fell asleep when I had mine (back injury) so it depends on your point of view.

Ear plugs in, noise and lying down triggered my "long-haul" response, dozed off after a couple of minutes.

I had one last year on my ankle, the headphones aren't very good as they are basically just long tubes with cups on the end, the actual speakers are in another room so it's hard to hear very well what is on, and there is no bass at all :)
